North Shore Board
of the Northwestern Settlement

The North Shore
Auxiliary Board

We are proud to be an all-volunteer, working board, ensuring all annual fundraising proceeds directly benefit Northwestern Settlement's House In The Wood Camp program.

The Northwestern Settlement is an incredible organization that supports at-risk youth and families in Chicago. The organization facilitates a wide variety of programs that aim to nurture, educate and inspire children in order to disrupt the cycle of generational poverty. The North Shore Board is one of a few auxiliary boards that work to support the Settlement and their operations by raising money and providing volunteers. The money that the North Shore Board raises each year goes toward House in the Wood Camp, one of their core programs, which is a truly transformative experience for many children and families of the Settlement.

What does it mean to join
The North Shore Board?

You are familiar with the mission of the Settlement, the North Shore Board’s role in supporting the Settlement, and the importance of what happens at House In The Wood, but you still have more questions. See our FAQs below.

  • The board is made up of a truly dynamic group of women. There are women in their 30’s - 60’s, women who work, women who stay home with children, women who do not have children, women with all sorts of different professional experience. The board is a group of women who value a sense of community amongst people who share an interest in philanthropy and a genuine desire to make a difference.

  • Executive board meetings are held quarterly. General board meetings are the second Tuesday of each month between September and June, alternating between daytime and evenings, held at members’ homes. In addition to monthly meetings, there are various social events throughout the year, as well as volunteer opportunities.

  • Your role as a board member is very much within your control. We currently have 62 board members, 19 of whom sit on the executive board. We have members who have been with the board for over a decade and we also have members who joined in 2020 taking on prominent roles with the executive board. It is a very collaborative and supportive group. Make of it what you wish!

  • Board members come to meetings straight from the gym, from the office, from school, etc. It is a relatively casual, collaborative environment. The focus is to share information as well as give and solicit support for various projects we are working on for the Settlement and Camp.

  • Board members pay general dues in the amount of $250. Associate members are required to purchase two tickets to the annual gala ($375pp). Regular members are required to purchase four tickets.
